Fight Like a Jedi, aka Lightsaber 101
Adventure, excitement, A Jedi craves not these things...but we do! Learn the art of the lightsaber through the use theatrical combat techniques, force powers, and your imagination. Students will learn a choreographed lightsaber duel, taught by Gregory Larson, Fight Director for the Bristol Renaissance Faire. At the end of class, each pair can choose to perform their fights one at a time in front of the class. Class size limited to 12, ages 15 and up. Sign up is first-come first serve at the Bristol Renaissance Faire booth. A wait-list will be available when classes are full. Dan will tell several Japanese folktales and comment on their history and significance.
Tales From the Dark Side
Ghosts and demons fascinate the people of every culture and this concert/workshop will dwell on these stories from the dark side of folklore. The stories will be traditional folktales from around the world from the English “Mr. Fox” – a study of a mass murderer to the Russian “The Devil’s Portrait” – a story about every one’s favorite bogey man “Old Nick” himself. Guaranteed to bring you a restless night.

This panel will demonstrate the difference between stage combat (both for film and theater) and real combat. We will explore what works on film versus what really works on the battlefield.
So Many Weapons, So Little Time – Kobujutsu
This panel will demonstrate and discuss the various weapons from kobujutsu, the multi-weapons art of Okinawa. Their history and application will be talked about and demonstrated through the various kata of the weapons.
Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei Seitei Kata – Iaido’s Common Language
This panel/workshop will demonstrate and discuss the kata that make up the ZNKR Seitei Kata set. This set includes kata from the major sword schools of Japan and was devised to give kendo students and all sword schools a common sword language.

Japanese 100: Basic Japanese Every Kid Should Know!
For ages 6 to 12 yrs old. There are many great words brought over in the dubbing of an anime that our children hear. From Naruto to Howl’s Moving Castle, our children have heard various Japanese words and they don’t even know it! This panel is a great way to let your child to learn a few basic words in the Japanese language.
Let’s Make 1,000 Cranes!
An old Japanese legend states that if one folds 1,000 cranes you will be visited by a crane and be granted a wish. In Japan the 1,000 cranes is made for weddings, new babies, and for sick friends and family members and given as a gift.
Let’s make a Carp Kite!
This is a fun project and easy to do. All you need is some construction paper, streamers and glue. We have many different colors of construction paper and streamers for your child to use to make there very own kite with.
Let’s Make A Soot Sprite!
From the popular animes Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro this fun project is sure to bring out the child in all of us. We have plenty of black pipe cleaner, yarn, and googly eyes for your child to use to make there very own Soot Sprite to take home and call their own.
Let’s Make Cat Ears!
Want to look like a cute cat? We will be using headbands with this easy to do and fun to wear creation. Your child will have a multitude of color choices for their cat ears along with child safe scissors and glue to keep them in place.
Let’s Make Paper Lanterns!
Another fun and easy craft to do. All you need is some large origami paper, a stapler, and some twine. The fun patterns on the paper make some of the most beautiful lanterns around.
Let’s Make Shadow Puppets!
Japan is known for Bunraku puppets (a.k.a Ningyo joruri) which puppets can stand up to 2-4 feet tall and were originally made to stand out with torchlight. These types of puppet performances are held on massive stages with shamisen or taiko music. Crafting wise, when we think of shadow puppets, we think of the traditional shadow puppets that originate from other parts of Asia and are actually easier for children to make. These are normally cut outs with various details that your child will have fun creating and enjoy for hours.

Pin The Tail On The Shippo
The rules to this game are simple: just like pin the tale on the donkey. Each child will be blindfolded and spun three times. Each will be given a turn to try and give Shippo his tail back and win a prize.

This panel is a great group bonding experience for all anime fans no matter where we may hail from.
Death Note Mafia
Death Note characters take the roles of this interpretation of the party game where you must work with a team who could betray you at any time.
In each round, the randomly chosen Kira anonymously removes a player, then all remaining players deliberate who should be sacrificed in the hopes of eliminating Kira.
The rules will be explained, so prior knowledge of the game and the series is not necessary. Can the investigators defeat Kira without falling prey to the Death Note?

And no, there won’t be any swing dancers this year - just really, really sharp swords...that might be used on the person who arranged Opening Ceremonies last year. You will just have to come and see what happens!
Otaku Tonight with Professor Pher
Otaku Tonight is a late-night talk show style panel, complete with monologue, skits, guests, and possibly a musical guest! It's the only event of its kind in the region, and was a smash hit at Geek.Kon, bringing in the most attendees among all events happening between 9 PM and 11 PM on Saturday night!
OtakuSanity (18+)
OtakuSanity or the OS is a stand-up comedy duo of two crazed otakus, Desuka and Yowecchi. These two will make you laugh, cry, and feel just a little awkward as they express their feelings about last year’s con as well as animes that they like or, the more likely, dislike. Examples range anywhere from elevators to cat girls, Naruto to bathing!

Riffing Advent Children (18+)
The classic Anime Milwaukee panel returns to give another anime movie what it has coming. In the past we have riffed the Fullmetal Alchemist Movie and the 1st Pokemon movie, this year we take on that classic series Final Fantasy, and take down Advent Children. If you aren't sure what to expect, simply look up Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Rock 'N' Lol
A comprehensive 180 degree explanation of the Visual Kei music industry in context, as it stands in Japan currently. Previous knowledge of Visual Kei is suggested, but not required for participation in this panel.
Scavenger Hunt
A fun event for kids and parents to partake in together. Each family will have to work together as a team and find items located around the Hyatt and the Convention Center.

Tale of the Female Prince: Revolutionary Girl Utena
This panel will be dedicated to the 1997 anime series Revolutionary Girl Utena. In this discussion panel I will lead the group in different analysis of character dissection and metaphorical occurrences in the anime series.
The Art of Decoden
Heard about decoden but feel a little bit daunted at the task of starting it? This panel will give a brief history along with tips on getting started! Bring some of your decoden creations if you want to show them off.
The Ghibli Panel
We will focus mainly on the films of Hayao Miyazaki, but we will also touch on the films of Isao Takahata such as Grave of The Fireflies and Only Yesterday. We will explore the cultural and artistic significance of these films.
The Hired Gun of Japanese Cinema: A Takashi Miike Panel (18+)
Takashi Miike is a director renowned a great many films both very large in budget and the smallest imaginable. His works spread from children's films and television to graphic horror, kaiju, yakuza films, and musicals.
This panel will give attendees a brief overview of his 90+ films and then lead into a discussion of his themes and artistic merits. Come learn about the self proclaimed "hired gun" of Japanese cinema.
The Manly Tournament
Who is the manliest character in anime and video games... we want to know! Make or break the case for your favorite characters as we debate it out tournament style.
Audience participation encouraged as we take suggestions and arguments for finding who the champion is.
The Otaku's Guide to Safe Online Dating (18+)
Online dating is a great way to connect one otaku to another. Learn how to find that romantic connection in a safe setting. The panel will be interactive.
It will have a PowerPoint Presentation with pictures & the panelists will be asking for the audience's experience with online dating.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a very psychologically and symbolically rich anime. I would like to explore that psychology and symbology mostly from a Jungian perspective. Topics would include:

b) The symbol of the early adolescent piloting a giant robot.
c) The challenge of growing up to be an adult vs. wanting to return to the mother's womb.
d) The oedipal conflict involving Shinji and his parents.

Versailles ~Philharmonic Quintet~
Formed in 2007, Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet- is a Japanese, Visual Kei band whose concept is to achieve "absolute beauty and extreme aestheticism" both visually, and through their music. Their most notable attributes are their French rococo- inspired costumes, dueling guitar sound, and heavy but melodic compositions.
Within this panel we will be discussing the band, their members, their music and their image.
