The cosplay contest is going over some major reconstruction, given the amount of people and suggestions we received. The biggest changes will be the creation of group entries and the creation of a skit category as well as an option to use music/recordings.
Cosplay Contest rules:
1. Contestants that would like their costume to be judged will enter themselves into four categories, either beginner, intermediate and experienced and groups.
There will also be a general skit category for those who don’t wish to be judged on their costume, but on the entertainment value of their skit. Skits can have no more than eight people in them.
2. Contestants in the costume category will be judged on workmanship, resemblance to the character and attention to detail.
3. Skits must be no longer than four minutes, any longer than four minutes and your entry will be disqualified. (Yes, we will be timing these!) Also, no more than two minutes of your skit can be music/dance based. So, you can have up to two minutes of dialogue and two minutes of music, totaling no more than four minutes.
Suggestion: While dancing or singing to a full length song is fine for you to do in your bathroom with the door closed, it tends to slow the cosplay contest down quite a deal, so if this is a major part of your skit, please include only a short segment of a song. Anything less than two minutes is fine.
4. Prop weapons must be appropriate, no live steel. Weapons must be no bigger than what can safely fit through a normal doorway. If you can't fit it through the door, don't bring it. Also, UW Milwaukee bans guns on the premises, even if it looks real, it could get taken away. If the University security asks you to put it away, put it away.
5. If you wouldn't wear it in front of Grandma, don’t wear it here.
6. No CaramellDansen.
7. Music or Recordings must be received in a CD format. The CD must be in a case and clearly labeled with your name, and skit title. The first track on the CD needs to be the music you want played. Music for skits can be no longer than two minutes. If your song runs over the two-minute mark, we will stop your music and come onstage and hit you with a foam bat.
(The reason we are strictly regulating the time for each entry is so we can have a lot of entries and not have to limit the amount of people that can participate)
8. Tech information: If you would like your music for your skit played at a specific point during your skit, just let us know when you would like your music played, and we will do our best to cue it at the correct time. There will be two microphones available for contestants to use during the contest.
