Tabletop Gaming at AMKE!

Tabletop Gaming at AMKE!

Postby SlitheryDee » Wed Feb 23, 2011 2:48 am

Hi there all, I'm SlitheryDee, the guy that ran the Tabletop Gaming Room at AMKE this past year. Thanks so much, everyone, for making it such a huge success! People were in there nearly 24/7 all weekend playing games, both in scheduled and unscheduled events, which is absolutely fantastic.

However, I'm seeing this all through rose-tinted lenses. If there was something horribly wrong I did, or something you wished you'd seen but didn't, please, please, PLEASE let me know - I'm doing this for you guys, and if I'm not doing what you want, then I'm failing at my job.

The biggest surprise for me was the sheer number of people playing Yu-Gi-Oh! at AMKE, and they even created their own tournament on their own accord! It was fantastic, and really opened my eyes that I need to pay attention to and respect games that I don't play (or haven't played in many years). This is my main goal to work on to make next year even better - tell me what games you play that you were sad you didn't see there, and I'll do my darn best to not only get them at AMKE 2012, but try and get official tournament support for it! (you'd be surprised which games have official tournaments - did you guys know there's a world championship for the Settlers of Catan every year, and the national championship for America is at GenCon every year? Because I certainly didn't before a few weeks ago in trying to figure out how to run a Catan tournament!)

So, long story short, thank you guys so much for making the Tabletop Gaming Room such a success, and help me make it that much better and awesome next year!

i dont want to sound rude and toot my own horn or anything but it was pretty much just me who got that Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament going. i was in and out of the table top room recruiting people left and right to make it the success it was. i didnt think it would blow up as much as it did but it was amazing. thank you guys for pimping it out like you did too. i noticed at one point that it was actually on the white erase board you guys had in the tt room. it was really awesome walking into the room on and off and every time there was a duel going on where people had there playing cards face up on the table anted up for the tournament. hopefully we can make it even bigger next year.

Oh no, that's not rude at all! I'm extremely pleased with what you guys did. I have no doubt in my mind that you definitely helped make the TTG room the massive success that it was. We'll definitely try to better coordinate a Yu-Gi-Oh! event and scheduling and advertising for it, and seeing as you're so knowledgeable about the game (where I definitely am not) I'll in all likeliness be turning to you for advice. Thanks for making it so awesome!

I really enjoyed table-top gaming. My favorite was playing in the Apples-to-Apples tournament.

Can we get Magic drafts going on all weekend? Dark Ascension will be out just in time for the convention and Innistrad limited is already a blast! :D

I second the idea of a magic draft. Could you also find someone to run a pathfinder adventure? Pre-made is fine, I just want to game

Pick up drafts are kinda tough to run, but what might work is a Type 4 stack or cube draft. That, of course, would require a bit of prep.

We will certainly have at least one Pathfinder adventure for people to sign up for over the weekend, (talking with the guy who's going to run it, it'll be between 4-11 people, so you and a friend can definitely participate!)

And Topher, if all goes according to plan, we have a deal with a local gaming store where we should be able to run pick-up drafts should enough people express interest.

I have a tentative list of events to be expected at AMKE 2012, which should go up on the website any day now, but if you have any requests, let me know, and I'll try to work it into the schedule!

Thanks in advance!
