Hi all, I'm the guy that ran the tabletop gaming room at AMKE 2011, and I have to say I was very impressed with your tournament. It was easily the most attended event in the room over the course of the convention, and it had people excited to play it all weekend. If you wish to run this again next year, I have no problem with it whatsoever, and I'll do what I can to contact Konami and see if I can get some sort of official tournament support and product for you guys as prizes.
I'll be honest, aside from the little I played back in the day (i.e. almost a decade ago), I know little to nothing of the game and what it entails these days. If you want to take the onus on yourselves to run a Yu-Gi-Oh! tounament on your own again, be my guest, and I'll see what I can do for prizes again (certainly better than a Phantom Hourglass poster, for sure - maybe even some promo cards or whatever Konami dishes out for official events, I'll see what strings I can pull and see what I can get).
If you'd prefer someone else to handle it, I do know some other people who still play, and I'll talk to them and see what we can arrange in regard to a tournament for you guys.
My goal is to make the tabletop gaming room THE place for you guys to hang out and have fun, and if you're not having as much fun as possible, then I'm failing at my job. So whatever you think you'd have the most fun doing, that's what I want to do. Thanks, you guys, for putting up with my ignorance with what's clearly a massive part of the TCG world these days. Hopefully I can rectify this somewhat in the intervening year, and if I have time during the next con, I'd love to learn more about the game, how it's evolved in the past decade, and how it works now.
Also, thanks, you guys, for making the tabletop gaming room so busy and such a common place to hang out - it felt great, on a personal level, to know that people wanted to come and play games here - even, and especially, of their own accord. Just know I'll do my d*mn best to make it that much better next year.
