I don't have anything to complain about, but I do have an idea for something you could do for registration.
First, you could have a table at the end of the line that has the forms that everyone has to fill out and have them fill out the form in the line instead of at a table near the front of the line. It may take off some of the time. Also, you could have it so the people going to the con put their names and any other info that you need on the badge so they can make it personal and then you wouldn't need to wait for the volunteer at the registration line to put the info into the computer and print out the sticker for the badge. All the volunteers at the registration table would have to do is put the information into the computer while the con-goers fill out the badge at the registration table and pay for their badge.

And also I know this was already mentioned but have pre-reg 1 day passes and a rave on friday night, that would be nice.

We'll talk about that in regards to mailing badges and pre-reg for single day passes. As for the rave on a Friday night, we'll look into that but it's additional costs to re-arrange rooms. It'd require either a lot more money for repeated set ups and takedowns for that space or a dedicated room more than likely. Don't quote me in that, though. It's not impossible, just it'll take some extra cash/planning. Like I said, though, definitely will bring that up. I love the rave!

quinnsanity wrote:The only problem I really had was at karaoke. Don't get me wrong, my problem is NOT with the group running it. They are amazing. I was there last year for every hour that karaoke ran.

My problem was with the people at karaoke.

I FINALLY got to sing and asked that no one come on stage with me so my friend & I could sing (The same group kept jumping on stage for every song they did NOT sign up for). If you want tp dance in front of the stage, awesome. Just have some respect for the people who signed up & waited. Sing while you dance. Before the music even started, the group jumped on stage with us and basically pushed me away from the microphone. I almost walked off stage. I did leave right after the song because it was just ridiculous. I even told someone about it, but don't know if anything was said.

I'll have to say this too was a problem and it's nice to see not just me. It was fun last year. And this year, Friday, it was good until this one girl kept on jumping on the stage and stealing the mic and show from whoever was suppose to sing... made me not even bother going Saturday night. :/

The Masquerade was another let down, only because it seemed the room it was in was so much smaller than last year's. Was the room from last year booked or something? The seating was just horrible and got stuck behind someone with really big spiky hair although I got there 45 mins early to get a 'good' seat...

Also, all the guests seemed to be repeats of last year. So it seemed like no point to wait in a long line just to see them again.

For some reason last year seemed funner - just can't put my finger on why though.. but still looking forward to next year.

re: volunteering

Good:
Like the schedule on the back of the badge.
Like the raffle.
Like the odds of wining in the raffle increase with amount of hours worked.
Like the idea of 2 coordination station, The coat room and the Volunteering office.
At least for me, I was told who was my Staff contact.
At each of my stations, the staff introduce themselves to me.

Concerns:
The Raffle. It should been more to end of the Closing, maybe right after Closing.
The time it took to perform the raffle was made longer because those who work more still had there numbers pulled. Maybe the name could be put on the ticket and all the tickets give to a Staff member. Those that had a number pulled already could be checked before calling.

Those who shift went through Closing did not know how the hand in there slips. I suggest that a Staff/Volunteer could be station before the Closing to collect the slips with signage.

Other:
A number of Volunteers had there emails not returned. It may be better to have a web form that enters into a database contact info and hours wanted.

Thanks to the Staff. I had lot fun although I spent most of my time help out.

Curiously, for registration, how hard would it be to setup four computer terminals with forms for users to fill out? These are then sent to the registration desk, and, when they pay, they can print it right out then and there is no need for registration staff to manually type in all of the info? I know some businesses over here do that, and it is especially helpful on their busy nights.

That's another idea we're going to look at and see if it's possible. We'll be exploring many options to streamline that. We'll also take that feedback about the raffle to heart and discuss where it fits and how to enhance the experience with volunteers!

Guests, the masquerade (and it's room space), and karaoke are all on my list so rest assured those will be brought up! Thanks everyone! I know my posts of "we're looking into that" per post might be a little repetitive but it's to make sure you guys know we are indeed listening and writing these down as they come in. Thanks again!

I have 3 complaints(I wasn't doing the Masquerade or Karaoke so I have no idea about them).

First, would be the distance between the Hyatt Regency and Frontier Airline Center, The sky walk added a great deal of stress on people's legs. That being said I do understand the space and noise concerns at the Hyatt, not to mention that you may not have been able to reserve exactly the spaces you had wanted.

Secondly, I was rocking a Gothic Lolita dress and had NO means of storage other than to put my wallet in the elastic part of my costume, so the no bag rule in the store was kinda of a pain, although once again I understand the reasoning as far as preventing theft, but our female con-goers would probably want to carry more than just a wallet on them, I never knew what trouble women went through with dresses until I experienced it for myself this weekend lol. Maybe you could consider allowing them, at least small purses.

Lastly, this isn't even my complaint so much as it was Robert Axelrod's but he was scheduled EARLY on Saturday after the rave to top it off and he had apparently asked otherwise. Lord Zedd, as awesome as he is,also is just like the rest of us, he is not growing any younger, the difference being he has seen a few more decades than most of us, As a fan I felt the need to say something.

Otherwise, I had an absolute blast! Not only did I have fun I think it has changed me a little bit for the better. This was my first con but certainly won't be my last one, If my resources allow it won't be my last Anime Milwaukee either!! Thanks for a great time guys!!! Now if you'll excuse me, I must recover from the con and the 2 long drives this week. I JUST showed up back home in Little Rock after a 13 hour drive which also involved getting lost in downtown Chicago.

This is why I chose not to attend this year. Guests are the main attraction for me, and I had already seen these guests, some of them twice. I'm sure it would have been fun to simply head down to wander around and hang out with people, but I decided saving my money for a different con would be the better choice.

Speaking as a professional floater for the weekend, I walked that skywalk maaany times. It does get tiring after a while but it's not as bad of a walk as ACen's skywalk experience lol that being said, it's necessary since our convention is too big for just the Hyatt. We'll be looking at ways to optimize traffic, though.

The bag rule seems to need some discussion. We have the coat check for free so people can drop off their belongings. Coat check was also a satellite office for our volunteer coordinators. Either we need to look into improving the trust of the coat check or discuss alternatives to the bag rule. This might not change, though, just because of the need for security in the vendor room, game room, and Rave. Rest assured, no matter what the outcome, we will have a dialogue about this rule.

The panel slot might have been a miscommunication beforehand. It happens unfortunately but thank you for bringing that to our attention. We like to make sure our attendees and guests are happy. I'll let panel programming know about it.

I'm glad you had fun and thanks for making us your first con! We hope you can come back next year (if your resources are limited next year, you can always join staff! *shameless plug*).

To be fair, LittleKuriboh wasn't here last year, Wendy Powell wasn't (though LK and Wendy were here before), and Robert Axelrod wasn't. We will be, as always, looking to your suggestions as our attendees for guests. We absolutely loved our guests this year (and I realize that's not hard to tell since quite a few have been here before lol) but we know you guys want variety. We'll do our best to bring in some fresh faces. I know I personally would like to bring back Todd Haberkorn or Christopher Sabat. Those two are hilarious...buuuut we'll look at your guy's suggestions (someone suggest them for me! =D).
